Skiing and Snowboarding in Japan

ski trail

Last weekend I went with some friends to “Marunuma” ski resort which located in Gunma prefecture in Japan. It took around 4 hours to get there from Tokyo by car.

I went there with a mixed group of friends from China, Korea, Mongolia and Japan. We rented a Honda Accord which let us comfortably carry 6 people. Renting the car, cost around 20,000 JPY, which when divided up between 6 people worked out about 3,300  JPY. The weather was nice, a sunny clear day, around 2~3℃ not too hot and not too cold when in snowboarding clothes.

We all travelled there without our own equipment. So we hired everything we needed at the resort.
Snow board, Shoes, Ski wear, goggles, and gloves. It cost around 5,000 JPY. I think its probably a good idea to at least bring your own gloves and goggles, to keep costs down.

Even though I am a complete beginner, the snow boarding itself was pretty fun. Also the view you get while on the mountain slope is really refreshing. I highly recommend taking the trip here and having some fun on the slopes for yourself.
