Ski Resorts Near Fukushima

So far we’ve covered some areas for skiing and also what housing options you can pick. If you’re looking to visit Tokyo but don’t want to go all the way to Hokkaido, another option is to visit a ski resort near Fukushima. Fukushima is a 2.5 hour drive from Tokyo.  Because of its location, it is cold enough to provide snowy winters for skiing and snowboarding. During off-season, areas surrounding Fukushima including Aizu has many lovely lakes and blossoming forests to get that picture perfect vacation shot.

If you’re looking for some winter fun, there are many ski resorts in Fukushima to choose from. Many of them offer shuttle service from Narita airport to the resort so you don’t have to worry about transportation. In terms of facilities, ski resorts in Japan may prove to be an interesting experience compared to the ones in North America. For example, many ski resorts are near hot springs and beautiful landmarks such as traditional Japanese castles. When you’re not skiing, you can enjoy some of these activities instead.

If eating is also one of your vacation priorities, you can also find many traditional Japanese eats. Izakaya’s are commonly located around ski resorts so that friends can gather in a warm environment for some drinking, food, and conversation. Typical Japanese eats that you could find within the ski resort are ramen, sushi, tempura, or udon. To cater to different diets, some resorts sell foods from other cuisines too.  The bottom line is you’ll have enough food choices to reenergize yourself before heading to the slopes again!

Next time you go to Japan, consider checking out smaller cities such as Fukushima. They tend to be a lot quieter without compromising the quality of ski resort amenities and have a cheaper price tag than more popular locations like Hokkaido.
